Occupational Therapy

Our Occupational Therapist's focus on functional treatment, strategies to enhance the resident's independence and quality of life.

Occupational Therapy is an integral part of the rehabilitation at PRS. Occupational Therapy focuses on the patient's ability to perform with the highest level of independence in the activities of daily living. We guide the patients and their families in developing compensatory techniques for preserving the highest level of function to enhance quality of life.

Occupational therapists provide skilled care to improve the patientŐs ability to perform activities of daily living (ADL) such as dressing, bathing, feeding, grooming, and toileting. They also focus on functional mobility, positioning techniques, contracture management, and home safety. Occupational therapy is primarily concerned with improving or developing/restoring the sensory, motor, cognitive, perceptual and psychosocial skills which have been impaired by illness or injury. Upon discharge from therapy, restorative programs are established with the nursing staff or family members to ensure continuity of quality care.

Our evaluation and treatment process focus on the areas listed below.

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY EVALUATION

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY TREATMENT

Our therapist will provide an evaluation within 24 hours of an admission to establish whether the patient needs treatment and identify individual goals. All residents will be screened quarterly to identify all of those who are suffering from a decline in function and will benefit from intervention.
