Speech-Language Pathology

Our Speech-Language Pathologist's provide intervention for patients who have difficulty communicating or have problems swallowing. The goal is to enhance cognitive and swallowing strategies to the highest safe functional levels.

Speech/Language Pathology is another important component of the rehabilitation program at PRS. A proactive, comprehensive program of guidance and re-education is established for any patient who demonstrates deficits in the areas of speech, cognitive/communication, or swallowing impairments to enhance patient quality of life.

Speech language pathologists are responsible for the evaluation and treatment of speech, language, and swallowing disorders (dysphagia). They provide intervention for patients who have communication difficulties, cognitive loss, and swallowing problems. Upon discharge from therapy, restorative programs are established with the nursing staff or family members to ensure continuity of quality care.

Our evaluation and treatment process focus on the areas listed below.

SPEECH/LANGUAGE PATHOLOGY EVALUATION / TREATMENT

Our therapist will provide an evaluation within 24 hours of an admission to establish whether the patient needs treatment and to identify individual goals. All residents will be screened quarterly to identify all of those who are suffering from a decline in function and will benefit from intervention.
